I guess this thread could be used as a warning for gamers. Do not post anything that is false advertising.. you can get banned for scamming.

I private messaged Regina about this matter. Hopefully she can request for them to re-review this matter. 7 more days is a while...

True. No one can tell what is a joke or a true attempt to scam. Therefore, ban any comments that sound like scam. It spreads wrong info, a 'passing by newbie' might read and fall for it, or believe it.

Thus, as sorry as I am for the OP being banned (considering his intention was good), it is fair.

The people who are telling you that you deserved really need to calm down, obviously it was a joke and no-one was actually dumb enough to trade him, but if someone did then the stupid tax rule falls into place and you learn your lesson from it instead of being impulsive when buying stuff.

I was new to the game, so that's what I did - after I found out about the wiki. I wasn't scamed over it, I'm trying to prove a point here, not all new people know where to go to learn this kind of stuff, that doesn't make them stupid and definitely doesn't earn anyone the right to scam them.

Yup, cause it's not wrong to mislead anyone who has never participated in a wintersday event for some cheap entertainment, amirite?

Lesson is dont do it again, thats all there is to it. Also in my opinion this thread should be closed if it turns into flamewars, the lad will learn from his mistake.

Ran this past my wife, a NwN DM of many years. We both agreed that whilst the 15 days was a bit harsh, it was a just sentence.

Sure, you weren't trying to scam. You've said that. But unfortunately, places like Kamadan are full of noobs. Noobs that read that sort of ad, and remember it. Then later on when someone actually is running the scam, they think, "Oh frozen ecto, I missed out last time I saw someone selling it, I'm not gonna miss out this time!!"

So you see, whilst you had no intention of scamming, the noobs don't know that. Nor do they know that what you said was not actually true. So in effect, in a roundabouts way, you're actually helping to set the noobs up to be royally screwed by real scammers. Not cool.

Whilst my above scenario may or may not happen, though I'm swaying towards the "Noobs are hella dumb, they'd buy a turd on a stick if u told em it was leet" line of thought, as would aNet. In situations like this, unfortunately, it's better to be safe than sorry, and this time, you copped the painful end of "Safe". And now you're sorry.

Next time, think of the most stupid scenario you can think up, and realise that if you can think it, there's noobs out there doing it.

I can. 2 words. Auction.House.

I lay blame fully on Anet for allowing trade text scams to turn into real ones.

/edit2
oh yeah, and then allowing people to /report for it. it's their mess and we see how it's dealt with.

If I owned a company.. I would require the support team to review scams by FIRST looking at the trade transactions....

This is a perfect example of ANET's poor support system.

Just ask them to review it. GW support is not a robot and decisions are made by humans whose opinion's and mood aren't always constant.

I got a 2 month ban for giving away items in GToB because I apparently spammed the "Giving away free 3rd year Minis" too many times in a row,(Albeit the length was because I had recieved a week ban a month prior) what I did gave them no justification to give a ban like that. To make a long story short, I just emailed support and the ban got removed the next day.

I'm guessing you will have a similar fate. But if not, that's what alt accounts are for.

Derp. There are few people I hate in Guild Wars more than PUGgers, but people who refuse to look things up and ask ingame instead are one of them.

You don't scream "Bomb!" on a plane - if you do, even if it was just a joke you get into problems.

Even if you didn't intend to scam anyone, people have read that. That might facilitate the life of real scammers in some way.

BTW if you like games in general, and if you hadn't yet, take those 15 days to have a look at Dragon Age if you are in that type of games.

/agree on unjust ban. Scamming someone into would have been a different story, but simply getting blocked on account of only marketing the idea seems silly.

Some people aren't spoiled by online guides/wikis and actually like to figure things out on their own or ask others that are playing the game.

On a lighter note, does this mean we get to ban aNet for scamming us with the promise of updates, and not delivering?

In real life if you use a toy gun to rob someone or something the crime and punishment is still the same. Even if you said you were kidding and just playing around. Move the wrong way and a cop will shoot you even. The OP intended to get some kind of reaction out of someone or a lot of someones or he never would or should have done the OFFENSE. Justified banning enjoy the next 8 days. )

Then they shouldn't get mad when they make a mistake, or someone leads them into one.

If informing yourself could have stopped the problem, and you chose not to inform yourself, you have only yourself to blame.

Go post on the wiki if you want a quick response from Regina.

And it was probably more than one person that reported you for being dumb. How long did you stand there and spam? Next time you're bored, log out. Don't be dumb. Consider yourself lucky they didn't permanently ban your account too.

We all know ANet and NCsoft make decisions we don't agree with. Why continue to act up then? Since everyone knows they make decisions based on varying translations of the rules, why test the rules at all? It's not going to change what they do, it's their game. I don't like ANet or how they run things, but you don't run up to a bear and poke it with a sharp stick do you?

Play the game and keep your head down. You do something that can be skewed into scamming people, you deserve whatever you get, especially given everything else that's happened recently in regard to this.
